Built from a belief that every child deserves to spell with confidence.
edSmart began with a simple observation: teaching spelling well takes considerable time and repetition, and not every classroom has the resources for it. We set out to build a platform that gives students consistent, well-structured practice, while easing the day-to-day demands that spelling instruction places on teachers β so that more attention can go toward learning, and less toward preparation.
Stronger literacy outcomes
Consistent, guided practice, authentic pronunciation and proper word study build spelling and vocabulary skills that last well beyond the classroom.
Less preparation for teachers
Structured word lists, automated tracking and ready-made assignments reduce the manual work spelling instruction usually demands.
A genuine reason to practise
National-style competitions give students real motivation and recognition to work toward, turning practice into purpose.
Made for how students play and how teachers teach.
For Students
A structured path to confident, accurate spelling.
- π Every word is read aloud in a British or Nigerian voice, reinforcing correct pronunciation before you spell
- π― Progress through Practice, Challenge and Competition modes, each building on the last
- π₯ Track your improvement over time and measure it against the national leaderboard
- π Represent your state and earn recognition through live, national-style competitions
For Teachers
Deliver consistent spelling instruction, without the extra workload.
- 𧩠Set up a class in minutes and share a single join code with your pupils
- π Assign structured word lists instead of preparing them by hand each week
- π Identify who is progressing and who needs support, through clear reporting
- π€ Run a live spelling round for the whole class at once, with minimal preparation
Two journeys, both live in minutes.

Every word comes with its story.
We ground every word in proper word study β meaning, origin and usage β because understanding a word is the first step to spelling it correctly.
Real pronunciation, real words.
Correct pronunciation is the foundation of correct spelling. Each word is read aloud clearly and paired with its meaning, origin and use in a sentence β the same method used in national spelling bees.
Live class rounds.
Spelling is best practised together. Teachers can run a live round for the whole class at once, giving pupils a shared, motivating experience without additional lesson planning.
Two accents, your choice.
Language is learned as much by ear as by eye. Students can listen and spell in a British or Nigerian voice, whichever reflects how they read and speak.
Compete nationwide, from home.
Healthy competition builds motivation. Students can measure themselves against peers across the country and work toward genuine recognition, without leaving the classroom or home.
Nobody is too young β or too old β to join.
What our spellers say
See what people who have improved their spelling, grown their vocabulary and sharpened their English are saying.
βI have participated in several offline spelling competitions. When I saw this website on Facebook, I quickly took the chance to compete online. It was fun β I ate those words like yam. I can't wait to start winning on this platform.β
βIt was fun playing the game. The functions are on point, and the layout and graphics β which were initially poor β have now worn a beautiful look.β
βI never knew when I became wrapped up in the euphoria of competing with my brother, who is very good at spelling. Though I got a slightly lower score, the fun paid off.β
βThe functions have been well programmed. I see a great prospect in this platform.β
